Florida—the Fun State

Apart from historic places of interest and shopping malls, Florida also offers a multitude of attractions and recreational activities. For visitors who love theme parks and movie studios, Orlando is a must. Disney World, MGM and Universal Studios and the "Island of Adventure" are just a few of the many theme parks located in the area.

There are a lot of ways to explore Florida's impressive flora and fauna: Canoe tours through mangrove swamps, deep-sea fishing, horseback riding and nature hiking on dedicated trails in the Everglades National Park are just a few examples of the recreational activities visitors can engage in.

Those who prefer a faster means of transportation might enjoy airboat tours through the Everglades or exploring the coastal regions of the Gulf of Mexico by boat. In Florida, no boating license is required. You should have some boating experience, however, as landing at or casting off from a jetty takes some practice. Also, close attention must be paid to all “Manatee Area” warning signs. The gentle, harmless animals often float only a few inches or centimeters below the water surface (for example, in some sections of the Caloosahatchee River) and can be badly injured by boat propellers.

In addition to being a mecca for water sports, Florida is also a golfer's paradise. In particular, the area around Naples, Fort Myers and Cape Coral in southwestern Florida has a multitude of golf courses. For most golf courses, no membership is required. In addition, a large number of driving ranges are available, where you can improving your putting technique or simply get a taste of golfing. Several mini golf courses with exciting names such as “Adventure Golf” or “Jungle Golf”, offer fun for the whole family and are especially popular among younger visitors.
